SUPERGLASS TAKES THE GREEN PATH TO BRIGHT FUTURE
Ongoing investment in leading edge equipment and a commitment to a strong environmental approach have been key elements in the continued expansion of Stirling-based Superglass Insulation Ltd.
The company, which employs more than 200 staff, manufactures and supplies glass wool insulation material, primarily for use in domestic homes and, founded in 1987, is now established as one of the leaders in the UK sector.
Earlier this year the strength of its position was reinforced when a £40 million deal saw NBGI Private Equity Ltd acquire the company from previous owners Encon Ltd.
As a result of the move, concluded in August, the seven members of the existing senior management team, led by managing director John Smellie, acquired an interest in the company, which has a turnover of approximately £40million.
It was also revealed that Superglass is to receive a Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant of £850,000 from the Scottish Executive.
Managing Director John Smellie commented:
“The successful conclusion of the NGBI deal, coupled with assistance the Scottish Executive is providing via the RSA grant will allow us to implement our plans for the expansion of Superglass.
“The new arrangements will enable us to invest in a range of state-of-the-art product-handling equipment and further enhance the service we offer to our customers”.
Central to those plans is a company-wide commitment to environmental best practice.
A key area is the public sector, with public bodies being urged by the Scottish Executive to build a more environmentally responsible future by making greater use of recycled materials in construction projects.
Superglass is strongly positioned as one of the most environmentally-aware operators in the UK sector. The strength of its commitment to a green approach can be measured by the fact that, to date, the firm has invested £4.7 million on environmental improvement matters, particularly the use of wet electrostatic precipitators (WESPs) which enables it to recycle massive quantities of water during the manufacturing process.
As a result, the company’s products now have a high recyclable content of up to 80%.
John Smellie continued:
“Both the UK government and the Scottish Executive have a strong focus on recycling and there is now a major drive, particularly in the construction industry, to move away from the need for the use of landfill by promoting a green approach.
“Our ongoing commitment to an environmental policy in all our operations and the high level of recycled material in our products means we can offer our clients the security of knowing that they are meeting the requirements of the increasing amount of legislation governing the sector”.
