Superglass Insulation Limited began manufacturing at its Stirling site in 1987 and quickly became established as a major supplier of mineral wool insulation products. In 2005, Superglass became the biggest independent manufacturer of mineral wool insulation products following the purchase of Superglass Ltd from Encon Ltd. As a result of the move, the seven members of the existing senior management team, led by Managing Director John Smellie, have acquired an interest in the company which has a turnover of approximately £40million. The company’s plans for expansion will be further assisted by the offer of a Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant of £850,000 from the Scottish Executive. John Smellie said: “I'’m delighted at the successful conclusion of this deal which will allow us to implement our plans for expansion of the company in the coming years. “The new arrangements will enable the company to invest in a range of new state-of-the-art product-handling equipment which will allow us to increase capacity and efficiency at our Stirling operation and further improve the service we offer to our customers. “The assistance which the Scottish Executive is providing via the RSA grant will help us to build further on the expertise and commitment of our existing staff and I also anticipate that we will create new jobs as the business expands”.
